Independent Lab Test Results
While particles flowing from engine increase over time, particles passing through and out of ICS filter remain uniformly very low

By Independent Laboratory Tests

ICS’s mission is to convert state-of-the-art materials ideas into commercial products. Fortunately ICS is located within 15 minutes of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to make use of ORNL’s extensive materials research and testing capabilities.
• The capabilities of the government laboratory allows ICS to compete, on an equal basis, with large international corporations.
• New ideas and products are discussed with world class scientists to determine feasibility and product development plans.
• Prototype materials and products are tested at ORNL on the best equipment in the world to evaluate performance and necessary optimization changes.

ICS uses the ORNL personnel and facilities to evaluate each step of our ThermaPore™ product development, from media manufacturing to final cartridge testing.
• The Company spent two years working with ORNL to develop the filter media and binder system, using high-resolution electron microscopy.
• Each change affecting the ceramic fiber-binder interaction was evaluated at a magnification of 2,000X.
• ICS tested the final product in diesel engine test cells at ORNL to evaluate the performance, durability and filtration efficiency. See details at right.

Testing Sequence

• The first test at ORNL was conducted in a 1.9-liter Volkswagen diesel engine test cell, using an elaborate set of analytical instruments to determine filter backpressure and filtration efficiency, showing greater than 95% filtration efficiency.

• The final testing was verified on a 1.7-liter Mercedes diesel engine at ORNL. Those results are shown on the charts. The total particulate matter removal was 96%.

• ORNL has the unique capability to measure efficiency at each particle size. The second chart shows that the ICS pleated filter media was efficient to 98% particulate removal down to a particle size of 10 nanometers.
